My friend Ellen and I spent a lot of time Jules, a coffee shop in our home town. We drank lots of chai tea, ate many bowls of vegetarian chili, and had numerous formative conversations sitting in the wooden booths of that long, narrow space. It has become a tradition to meet up at Jules when the two of us are in town at the same time. This painting is from a photo I took of Ellen when we were both visiting from college over the winter break.
